Information on the roles and responsibilities of the Mayor (also known as the Chief Elected Official) can be found in the Municipal Government Act.
Mayor Caroline McAuley has been a resident of Vermilion for over 30 years. During this time she has always been an active community volunteer in many facets of Vermilion life so becoming a town councillor in 2009 was a natural step. Councillor McAuley was re-elected in the 2010 and 2013 elections and became Mayor in 2017. Her passion for developing and supporting economic development and maintaining Vermilion as a great place to live and work was evident in her work as a councillor and continues as Mayor.
Mayor McAuley completed an MBA in Community Economic Development which has been useful in her councillor and Mayor role. She is also a registered dietitian currently working in the Kalyna Primary Care Network and does consulting work.
Mayor McAuley is married to Clifford, an instructor with Lakeland College. They have three adult children, and four grandchildren. In her personal time, she enjoys gardening, quilting, cross country skiing and being active outdoors with her dog Callie.
