New Business

Pink Shirt Day
Council has proclaimed February 24, 2016 as Pink Shirt Day to encourage residents to proudly participate to promote awareness, understanding and openness about the problem of bullying and share in the commitment to finding a solution.

Canadian Fallen Heroes Foundation
Council will support the Canadian Fallen Heroes Foundation with a silver sponsorship of $500.00 to create memorials in honour of soldiers that are from the County of Vermilion River area.

St. Jerome Catholic School – Community Initiatives Grant Program Letter of Support
Council will send a letter of support to the Community Initiatives Grant Program for St. Jerome Catholic School for the purchase and installation of a digital LED sign.

2016 Water Main Improvement Program Engineering Proposal
Council accepted the engineering proposal from Bar Engineering Ltd. to administer the 2016 Water Main Improvement Program to install a new water main on 46 Avenue from 51 Street to 52 Street.

2016 Street Improvement Program Engineering Proposal
Council accepted the engineering proposal from Bar Engineering Ltd. to administer the 2016 Street Improvement Program which includes pavement reconstruction on 51 Avenue from 52 Street to 53 Street, a pavement overlay on College Drive from 52 Street to 56 Street, a pavement overlay on 41 Street from Railway Avenue to 48 Avenue and on 48 Avenue from 40 Street to 41 Street and the second lift of pavement for Phase I and Phase II of the Junction Sixteen/Highway 41 Commercial Subdivision.

Snow Removal and Ice Control Policy
Council approved the updates and changes to the Snow Removal and Ice Control Policy to include Junction Sixteen 41 in the policy as a Priority 1B and to change the response time for Priority 1B from 24 hours to 48 hours.

Public Safety and Protection Services

Radar Speed Sign Radar Sign
In 2015, the Town of Vermilion setup a radar speed sign for a two-week trial period and the data collected from the speed signs proved to be extremely beneficial. Council authorized administration to purchase two radar speed signs in the 2016 budget.

Vermilion Regional Centre – 2017 Hall Rental Rates
Council increased the hall rental rates for the Regional Centre by 3% to be effective January 1, 2017.
