PRESS RELEASE- MAY 5TH, 2016 @ 10:45AM
The Town of Vermilion is monitoring the situation in Ft. McMurray. Through a request from the Provincial Operations Centre we have deployed 6 firefighters and equipment to assist with the Ft. McMurray fire relief.
On behalf of Council and Administration we are very thankful, appreciative and proud of our 6 local firefighters who have offered their services in this time of need. We wish them all the best and a safe return home.
At this time, no formal coordination of a Reception Centre in Vermilion has been planned for displaced residents from Ft. McMurray. We continue to monitor the situation with our personnel and have offered any assistance to this effort.
The Town of Vermilion has established a fund for those wishing to donate to the Ft. McMurray situation. Donations will be accepted at the Town Office during normal business hours.
If any local residents would like to offer individual assistance in any capacity please visit the Alberta Emergency Management Association website at www.aema.alberta.ca
Thank you to all our residents, businesses, and organizations who have assisted in any capacity to date.
